Barca Close In On Real

Samuel Eto'o signed off with a brace in his last game before linking up with Cameroon for the African Nations Cup as Barcelona brushed aside Real Murcia 4-0 at the Camp Nou on Saturday.

Eidur Gudjohnsen gave the home side the lead midway through the first half before Thierry Henry took centre stage after the break with assists for Bojan Krkic and Eto'o as the Catalans romped to an easy victory.

Eto'o added a fourth in the closing stages and left the pitch to a standing ovation when he was replaced by youngster Pedrito.

The result moves Barca to within four points of league leaders and arch rivals Real Madrid, who play at lowly Levante on Sunday.

In Saturday's other game, Athletic Bilbao produced an efficient home display against 10-man Sevilla to claim only their second win - 2-0 - at the San Mames Stadium this season.

The Basque outfit took full advantage against an off-key Sevilla, who have been impressive at home but have only managed one win on their travels all campaign.

A 28th-minute goal from Fran Yeste put the home side on their way to victory and the three points were secured when Markel Susaeta slotted home from close range midway through the second period.

By then Athletic's task had been made a good deal easier by the 52nd-minute dismissal of Sevilla defender Julien Escude for elbowing Aritz Aburiz.
