SINGAPORE REVEAL NIGHT-RACE TIMETABLE

Organisers of the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix have officially announced the timetable for the first-ever Formula One night race, which will begin about an hour after the sun sets.

The street circuit race will start under the floodlights at 8pm local time on Sunday, September 28.

Saturday's qualifying session and the second Friday practice session will also begin under the lights at the same time.

In addition to the night programme, there will also be a daytime practice session on Friday between 4pm and 5.30pm and final practice on Saturday between 5pm to 6pm.

"The time was chosen to offer optimal driving conditions under the lighting system as it will be completely dark and to hit maximum television viewership in Europe, where it will be Sunday lunchtime," explained Singapore GP communications manager Fiona Smith to the Today newspaper.

In addition to the main race, the Singapore GP will also host events on the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, Formula BMW Pacific and other supporting events. The timings for the support races have yet to be revealed.

Race organisers also revealed more than 70% of the corporate hospitality packages for the event have already been sold.
